They call themselves Colonial Dames. They have come from all over this week to meet, greet, socialize and to do whatever Colonial Dames do. One thing is for sure. They are in Savannah in large numbers this week. Actually there are two things for sure. They are enjoying the moment and each other.
The Colonial Dames have a few things in common. This group of mostly middle age ladies share a common interest in American History, love and respect of our nation, and a desire to work together in harmonious fellowship.
Their goal is to foster interest in seventeenth century colonial research and to commemorate the noble and heroic deeds of our ancestors and to maintain the high principles of virtue, courage and patriotism.
You can learn all kinds of stuff if you are not afraid to ask. I got my information from a mother-daughter duo that happen to be Colonial Dames and who happen to be spending a few days together with other Colonial Dames in Savannah. I discovered that Martha Marian and her daughter Cathy are very outgoing people. Actually Martha Marian has two other daughters who are at this meeting as well. We also discovered that Cathy and her two sisters are 3rd generation Colonial Dames, which is rather unique and special.
I am very impressed with the Society of Colonial Dames. But what is more impressive is this stay-at-home wife and super mom and registered nurse takes the time to spend a few days a few times a year with her mom. It took some doings for Cathy to get all her kids situated at different places so she could get away with her mom for a few days.
Again, when you view life from my perspective, this Cathy will one day look back on weeks like this and realize they were some of the most important days of her life. They are definitely enjoying life together while there is opportunity.
It’s amazing what you can find out if you just ask. And in asking, sometimes your horizons get expanded.
