None of us are as young as we once were. In fact, being 64, 61, 54 and 52 is not young in anybody’s book.
There are changes that take place as time passes by. But there is one thing that has not changed.
Mac, Kikky, George and Bruce have something very special in common. Ed and Naia Goddard were our parents.
And all of us are very thankful for that.
We did something yesterday that we do not do nearly enough. We and our spouses spent the day together at the lake. And we enjoyed every minute of it.
Thankfully Mama and Daddy did have one gal. She planned the day and really didn’t give any of us any options of whether we would attend.
The girls spent the day at the spa. They were pampered and rubbed for 4 hours at a local pampering place in Milledgeville.
The guys were supposed to be fishing. We did a lot more conversing than we did fishing but we did spend most of the day out on the lake.
To demonstrate how serious we were about fishing, we saw some old friends and pulled up at their dock and must have sat there over an hour in the boat chewing the fat with them. Charles and Jeannie even sat in the boat with us next to their dock and reminisced about great times gone by.
When you get the three Goddard boys in a boat together there is not a lack of story telling and laughing.
We all laughed but I think the fish also laughed at the prospect of us trying to catch them.
Our brother in law, Ken, was the designated driver of the boat. He was not designated because of alcohol consumption but because the three of us had to concentrate on whatever story we were telling.
The girls joined us later in the afternoon and we all spent the latter part of the afternoon cruising Lake Sinclair.
Eating is always a very important event at a Goddard gathering. So last night we grilled steaks and ate way too much and then gathered in the den.
Everybody was scratching somebody else’s head or back. A normal scene that has been going on for years wherever Goddard’s gather.
And the stories never stopped. We may lack a few things but none of us have ever lacked a story to tell.
We committed to each other to do this at least once every 3 months. Kikky and Ken were the hosts for this one so we will rotate between the four of us.
I did have an important thought as I was attempting to fish yesterday.
These get-togethers get more and more important to all of us the older we get.
I actually had another thought.
I’m sure Ed and Naia are enjoying heaven and they wouldn’t come back here to live for anything.
But there is no doubt they would have really enjoyed dropping by for a visit yesterday when we were all together.
