Pillow Talk

I am in a week long meeting this week in Peachtree City. The days start early and end late and there is plenty of work to do at night when I get back in the room. I can tell you this is not a week of leisure although the accommodations are comfortable.

My brother in law visited me last night. He and his sister, who happens to be my wife, are pictured here.

To be honest, Rudy has made a few dollars on me the last few years but he has also made a few dollars for me. He works out the financial end of my speaking events. I just show up to speak.

Rudy is not only my booking agent but he also handles my website and the shipping of books that are purchased. Since he really doesn’t attend my speaking events, you could safely say he is in it for the money.

But like I said, it works for me and works for him. As the corporate cliché goes, it is a win-win situation.

Just so you will know, Rudy also has a day job which I won’t explain here because I can’t, but the money he makes off “View From a Hearse” is his recess money, if you know what I mean. He has a degree in Public Relations. I always wondered if he would come back to Reynolds and open a business next to the Braswell’s Department Store and call it Rudy’s Public Relations.

He didn’t and I think he made the right move.

Rudy and I go back a very long way. At least 36 years have passed since I started dating his sister. We are not only brother in laws but we are also fraternity brothers. We are both Lambda Chi’s and both attended the University of Georgia.

Rudy called me Tuesday night to make sure I knew about a speaking engagement this weekend. He was driving down the road from Augusta to Atlanta because he had an early flight this morning. I told him I was at this conference center at Peachtree City so he decided instead of checking into a hotel at the airport that he would just come here and spend the night with me.

For the record, he did confirm that there were two beds in the room before he made that decision. We are brother in laws but not one bed brother in laws.

I spend the night in hotels all the time but never with someone else in the room. We stayed up late and finally cut the lights out and then talked for another hour in the dark before we went to sleep. I guess you call that pillow talk.

It reminded me of when I had friends over to spend the night when I was a kid. You stay up late and get caught up on whatever needs discussing.

We had a large time.

I learned one thing during the night. Rudy’s snoring sounds very familiar. I think he learned that art from his sister.

But what I cannot figure out is how I woke up the next morning wearing his underwear.

Breathe-Right Strips work for those loud noises that seem to come from your roommate during the night. My husband doesn't snore, but he sure does make a lot of noise.

Daddy, I laughed out loud at the end. Priceless.
