Meet the Websters

(Katy, TX) If you haven’t figured it out by now I live a rather unusual life and sometimes it’s just plain neat. Tonight I find myself spending the night at the home of the Webster’s in this suburb of Houston. I’ve been in an all day meeting at the corporate office of the company who employs me. And from a man who spends the night in a lot of hotels, eating a home cooked meal and hanging out with the Webster’s has been a wonderful change of pace.

Steve, who works in Houston for the same company I work for, asked me to speak at his men’s group at his church in the morning. Since the meeting begins at 6AM, in the same sentence he invited me to spend the night at his home with his family. I accepted both invitations. And I’m glad I did.

Steve and Kristen Webster are hospitable folks. Kristen’s day job is that of a territory manager and representative in the home décor and gifts industry. My wife and Kristen would definitely hit it off. Her other job is that of a super mom. She and Steve have four children: Tyler, Kendell, Jake and Madison. And you can be around these four kids, who range from 18 to 20 months in age, and know somebody in this house knows something about parenting.

I sat down at the dining room table with all six of the Webster’s tonight and had one of the best home cooked meals I have ever had. It is obvious that Kristen is not only a territory manager and a full time mom but she can also cook. I’m not just being nice either. I’m talking about she can really cook. Good lord I ate way too much.

But the neatest thing tonight was being in a home where I have never been in my life and watching the whole family sit down together to eat. They even prayed before they began their meal. And there was even conversation at the table.

I was reminded tonight that our great country was built on the institution of the family. In an age where many family members only see each other in passing a few times a week and hardly even have time to speak with one another, I have to tell you it was very refreshing evening for me.

In case you are wondering, the institution of the family is alive and well in Katy Texas. I think the Webster family has figured it out.

And we all should take a page from their book.

Still reading and enjoying your blog & pictures. The Websters look like a nice family. A home-cooked meal beats a restaurant any day! Glad you enjoyed your stay.
