Single White Female

The book of Ruth is my favorite book in the Bible. It is a story of the redemption of a single woman named Ruth who was at the end of her rope. The redeemer, Boaz, saw her beauty, recognized her hopelessness and changed her life. Although the circumstances that brought about this union were not pretty, the result of the union was more than amazing. A very famous carpenter from Nazareth was a direct descendent.

When I first started dating Kathy, her little sister had not yet started the first grade. My first memories of visiting the Underwood house include mental pictures of little Mia sitting on her dad’s lap.

When Mia was six years old, her dad suddenly died. I didn’t become her dad that day but Mia and I have always had a special relationship. I watched her grow up and have always been a part of her life. I have watched her during the good times and have walked with her through the tough times.

The times are kinda tough for Mia these days. She and her husband have just gone through a divorce and Mia now finds herself in a difficult place in life and having a difficult time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Just yesterday I stopped by her house. She was dealing with a flat tire and a dead car battery. Typical day for Mia these days.

If I could run a classified ad for her it would read something like this:

Single, white female. Age 41. Willing to re-locate. Drop dead gorgeous. Needs a new start. Desperately needs redemption. Looking for a Boaz. Preferably riding a white horse. He can come in the form of a future husband or an employer. All applicants must contact her brother in law at http://viewfromahearse.blogspot.com for screening.

I am convinced that Mia will find her redemption. The tough part will be the screening process by her brother in law, but she will be redeemed.

God always has a way with this kind of stuff. . Takes the ugly – makes it beautiful. Takes the bad – turns it into something really good. He takes the hopelessness – and turns it into hope.

To be honest, Mia isn’t even looking for her Boaz.

But neither was Ruth.

It's hard for Mia to see past dead batteries and flat tires right now.

This Boaz may show up at my funeral.

After Mia kills me for writing this.
