Other Than That It Went Fine

You can find the blog I wrote on August 7 entitled “We Never Spent a Dime on Her” by clicking on August link on this page and scrolling down.

That article is about our Dee who is like a daughter to us. I was bragging on how far she has come in life and about the fact that she was about to begin her pursuit of her Masters in Science of Radiological Sciences.

After I wrote that article I talked to her and she told me she would be pursuing her degree online but would have to go out to Wichita Falls, Texas once every six weeks or so to meet in the classroom, take tests etc.

She was not excited at all about flying and mentioned that Brian (her husband) would go with her the first time because she was nervous about traveling that far by herself and she was not excited about flying on an airplane.

I reassured her that all would be fine and flying is a piece of cake.

I have a feeling she thinks I lied.

I was forwarded an email last night from my sister in law that was written to her from Dee about her first trip to Texas recently.

I couldn’t help but laugh. Out loud.

It could only happen to her.

I think you will appreciate it more if I just give you an excerpt from her email. She began by talking about the fact that she did complete the first trip to Texas successfully. And I quote:

The flight out there and back was a nightmare though. The airplane left late from ATL, caused us to miss the connecting flight in Dallas, then they made us get and pay for a hotel. We left the next morning and then the airlines lost our luggage! I had to go to the first day of grad school in the same clothes I had worn and slept in for 2 days! You know me, I was trying to salvage what make-up and mascara I had on my face but it was pretty hard through all the tears and crying! I HATE FLYING! I did buy a little make-up to do some “touch up” but it didn’t help much. I couldn’t wash my hair because I didn’t have my straight iron and if I had washed it I would have looked like I stuck my hand in a light socket. So I tried to sleep without moving my head. It was awful!! Brian was over in his bed, at the hotel, doing the same thing! And he didn’t have anywhere to go or be! Then of course, they wanted to take pictures to make student ID’s on that very day. Lord, my picture looks like crap and will be a constant reminder for the next 2 years of the day from “you know where!” Other than that it went fine.

I guess I should give her a call and tell her she has experienced most everything that can go wrong on a trip so it should be down hill for her from here.

But I probably shouldn’t tell her that the airlines lost my luggage on three consecutive trips a year or two ago. And I can’t tell her the number of times they have lost my shaving kit that was in my suitcase. Nor will I tell her about the time I sat next to the huge man that had obviously eaten too many beans the night before. Nor will I tell her about the rainy night when the plane I was riding in got within feet of landing and took back off again. I surely will not mention how many hours I’ve sat in airports waiting on delayed planes. And I can’t tell her about the time I checked in a hotel, unlocked the room door with my key and noticed a pair of ladies undergarments on the floor and an un-made bed.

But I will have to admit that through all my traveling I don’t think I have ever tried to sleep without moving my head.

That would be kind of difficult for me.

…but other than that it went fine.
