This One Was Sweet

I’m not sure how long it has been since I sat around the house for a weekend but that is pretty much what I have been doing. And to tell you the truth it has been kind of nice. In fact, it has been really nice.

We had actually planned on going out of town this weekend with another couple but those plans got changed. My mother-in-law got admitted to the hospital on Wednesday and then was transferred to another hospital on Friday morning. So our plans got changed. And instead of going to visit the Whatley’s in Rome, the Whatley’s in Rome came to visit us.

Jim and I ended up watching football games all Saturday afternoon while our wives visited their mom in the hospital. Since we have been married to sisters for over 30 years, we have watched many football games together. And since we are both alumni of the University of Georgia and huge Georgia Bulldog fans, we knew the other games we watched were only a warm up to THE game.

THE game, by the way, was Georgia VS Alabama. ESPN. 7:45 PM. Dim lights. Big screen high definition Plasma TV.

Last night we ended up jumping up out of our chairs and screaming and hi-fiving after Georgia pulled it out in overtime on a 25 yard touchdown pass. I suppose some would consider that unusual behavior for a medical doctor and an undertaker. But we have done that dance too many times to even count over the years. So it is pretty normal for us.

There have been times when the outcome was not exactly as positive as last night but the losses have been much less than the wins. And the older I get the more I realize that the losses don’t hurt nearly as much as they used to.

But the wins are as sweet as ever.

And trust me, this one was sweet.

Good game. I do not think I have ever felt so good about a loss in my life. The tide is rising!

Roll Tide,

The 53 yr old at the other end of Macon Street has to be S.A. Don't know many people who left Reynolds and moved to Birmingham. Took me about 5 seconds to figure that one out... :-)
