This One Does That and More

I’m not sure if there is a better feeling than holding a fast asleep almost year old baby girl. Unless the baby girl you are holding happens to be the daughter of your life-long best friend.

Katherine Eiland, who now lives in Huntsville, AL with her hubby Russ, was in town this weekend. When she got here she made a beeline to John and Tami’s house. For those of you unfamiliar with my ramblings here, John is our middle son and is married to Tami. They produced our first little grandbaby named Taylor on January 24, 2007.

John and his first cousin Katherine spent an awful lot of time together when they were growing up. Whenever the two families got together (which was quite often), these two played together. In fact they were inseparable. On a visit many years ago to Disney World, John and Katherine got separated from the rest of the family. We almost panicked thinking the two very small children had gotten on one of the trains and would surely be lost forever. Katherine kept her cool and reminded John that they should go back to the place they had last seen us and wait. We finally had sense enough to go back to where we last saw them.

And there they were.

The friendship and kinship continued as they grew older. When they were teenagers, Katherine would be very protective of John. Katherine would not hesitate to give John her opinion of girls he dated. And sometimes the opinion was not good. When John started dating Tami, Katherine’s overwhelming stamp of approval meant the world to him and no doubt was the major confirmation he was looking for to get engaged.

When John and Tami began to plan their wedding, John called Katherine. He told her there were two females that he absolutely had to have in his wedding. One was Tami. The other was Katherine. Katherine told me she hung up the phone and cried.

Sunday afternoon I almost cried as I captured this picture of Katherine holding John and Tami’s little girl.

Sometimes a picture paints a thousand words.

This one does that and more.

Thank you so much for this post-I love the picture of us when we were younger-so many good memories. It was hard to give Taylor up that day-I wish I could have gotten to hold her all day.
I love you!!!

Katherine looks very comfortable and motherly holding Taylor. Do you think she is practicing?
