An Absolute Masterpiece

My youngest son Luke pulled off the surprise of the century today. It was an absolute masterpiece. And he even got it all on video - which will be coming to a blog site near you in the next day or two.

About three and a half years ago, Luke and Drew began dating. Drew has been a subject of my blogs on more than a few occasions. Some of you may remember a post I wrote here entitled Dead Solid Perfect. This very special dead solid perfect girl moved from girlfriend to fiancée about 6PM today on St. Simons Island.

I was reminded again today that God has blessed me way beyond my wildest dreams in the daughter in law department. And He just keeps on blessing.

A very nervous Luke talked to Drew’s dad a couple of weeks ago to get permission to marry his daughter. He thought it would be all downhill after that. He said he almost threw up on the 3 ½ hour drive from Warner Robins to St. Simons this afternoon. He said he had never been more nervous in his life. His plan was for him and Drew to go on a bicycle ride to an old tree on the island where they had carved their initials some time back. Since they make videos all the time, Drew helped him get the camera set up at the tree and was acting along with him having no idea what was about to happen. With the camera rolling and with a little humor added in, Luke got on his knee and proposed to the love of his life. Her reaction was one for the ages.

Luke will be on the island for the next 10 days or so vacationing with Drew’s family. That was all planned. But Drew had no idea about the plans for how the vacation would get started. She also had no idea that Kathy and I would drive down and be at the house when they got back from their bicycle ride. When they rode up to the house we were all standing outside. It just doesn’t get better than what we experienced today.

By the way she said yes.

It was an absolute masterpiece.
